Hand Gesture of Granting-No-Fear. Shown with the right arm bent and the palm facing outward at shoulder level. Symbolizes the Buddha's compassion to afford protection and remove fear from all sentient beings. According to Buddhist legend, when an angry elephant attacked Shakyamuni Buddha, he simply held up his hand in this gesture and calmed the raging animal.
