To introduce Buddhism to the public through the concrete imagery of Buddhist art.
  • 2.

To foster the exchange of culture and academia, and promote Buddhist art and culture using the Museum as a platform.
  • 3.

To collect, preserve, exhibit and do research on the valuable cultural assets of Buddhism and the Chinese tradition.
Guiding Principles
The Museum follows the vision of its founder, the Venerable Master Wei Chueh, in his dedication to inspire the public to learn and understand the Buddhist teaching, which guides one to unveil one’s inherent compassion and wisdom. To realize his vow, our Founder established a complex of religious and cultural institutes, including Chung Tai Chan Monastery and its 108 meditation centers in Taiwan and overseas, Pu Tai Elementary, Middle and High schools, and the Chung Tai World Museum—known as the Chung Tai World. “Chung tai,” literally meaning center (chung) platform (tai), in essence refers to our inherent pure awareness, virtue and wisdom. Through its various organizations, the Chung Tai World makes Buddhism accessible in this age using modern approaches in five areas: academia, education, art, science, and daily living. Chung Tai World Museum is an example of the “Buddhism in art” approach, founded on the vision of building a cultural castle that preserves Buddhist history, culture and art, and an artistic platform that promotes spiritual peace and enlightened exchange in society.
